Never thought I would be happy to see the same damn number on the scale as 30 days ago, but, surprisingly, I am. As you might remember, it’s been two months since I’ve decided to take care of my body and lose weight. As if my body thought it would be a great joke, instead of losing weight I put on 3 pounds in February.
March was difficult first of all because of SXSW – a music festival that happens in Austin every year. SXSW consumes you whole, sucks out all the energy out of you and spits you out in two weeks. Given that events are scheduled from early morning to late night every day for 10 days straight, eating healthy and working out seemed like mission impossible.
Nevertheless, I hit the gym 4 times per week during March. It’s two work outs per week less than I planned (I was ambitious enough to set the goal at 6 times per week), but it’s one work out per week more than I did in February. Overall, I am very proud of myself for sticking to the routine even during the craziest days of SXSW.
I also promised to write down everything I eat which is a great habit that allows you to see how much you REALLY eat per day. This promise seemed to be the easiest of all, and I completely failed. I would like to think it’s because of lack of time, but to be honest, it’s because of laziness.
Jumping from 3 glasses of water per day to 8 was also very ambitious. No matter how much I tried, I could drink only 5 glasses maximum. But it’s only a matter of time till I get used to drink more water.
I did fulfill my promise to drink coffee without sugar, and it wasn’t half as hard as I imagined!
I weighed myself once in mid-March and realized I put on 1.5 more pounds. That’s when I seriously freaked out. All I wanted to do was sit in the shower and cry. Instead I took a progress picture. Turns out, pounds are not everything. When comparing February and March pictures, I can see slight difference in my body (sorry, but I am not ready to share my half-naked pictures with you guys). By the end of March my weight went back down to 160 lb, as it was a month ago. And I am happy about it! Mostly, because I love that I am back to working out on a regular basis and I feel stronger. I can do push ups again. 2 months ago I did push ups on my knees.
I am going to be on the road almost the whole month of April which means no routine, no access to my gym and no home cooked meals. I am scared to think how I can stick to healthy habits during travels, but there’s no way around but trying, failing and trying again.
Current weight 160 lb.
